The specific causes of natural bearing wear mainly include the following: the minute peaks and valleys on the friction surfaces compress against each other, causing the brittle surface layer to gradually detach and wear away.

 

 

Oxidation Wear: The minute peaks and valleys on the relative moving surfaces of cylindrical roller bearings combine with oxygen in the air to form brittle oxides that are not firmly bonded to the base metal. These oxides easily detach during friction, and this type of wear is called oxidation wear.

 

Friction Heat Wear: When bearings operate under conditions of high speed, heavy load, and poor lubrication, high temperatures are generated at the surface peaks and valleys due to friction. This causes the hardness and wear resistance at the contact points to decrease, and may even lead to adhesion and tearing. This type of wear is called friction heat wear.

 

Hard Particle Wear: If the bearing surface structure is uneven and contains hard particles, or if impurities such as sand, friction debris, or chips fall between the moving surfaces during relative motion. During relative motion, these hard particles or impurities can scratch the bearing surface or even form grooves. This type of wear is called hard particle wear (Automotive Bearings).

 

Pitting Wear: Rolling contact surfaces such as gears and bearings are periodically subjected to high contact pressure during relative motion. After long-term action, fatigue occurs on the metal surface, causing micro-cracks and erosion on the bearing surface. This type of wear is called pitting wear.

 

Wear Caused by Chemical Corrosion: Causing rust or corrosion. The bearing surface is eroded by acid, alkali, salt liquids, or harmful gases, accelerating the wear process. This type of wear is called wear caused by chemical corrosion.

 

Wear Caused by High-Temperature Effects: When bearings work at high temperatures for a long time, the metallographic structure or chemical composition of the metal changes, reducing the wear resistance and hardness of the bearing surface and accelerating the wear process. This type of wear is called wear caused by high-temperature effects. When non-moving bearings on equipment are in long-term contact with liquids such as water, acid, alkali, salt, or harmful gases, causing rust or corrosion damage, it is called corrosion damage.
